We had a bit of trouble installing the side panels, which you mount by slotting in one edge, allowing the other to slot in too, before allowing the lower edge to drop down so both are secure. No screws needed, although we had to loosen off some screws again to get this to work freely.

The case includes clear acrylic stands to give some clearance for the lower fan mounts but it helps to establish a top and bottom to the case too as you can be left wondering which way is up sometimes. Of course with your hardware installed, this won't be too much of an issue.

Conclusion
That's our lightning tour of the R40. It's quite big for a micro ATX case but it reminds us a lot of SilverStone's FT02 with an elongated chassis that actually makes it appear bigger than it is. There's little wasted space inside although it has a specific setup in mind - dual-radiator water-cooled systems. that said, it's wide enough to accommodate hefty air coolers too.

We'd like to thank Hex Gear for sending in out sample for this quick preview and we'll be back soon with a full review including thermal testing. In the meantime you can check out any of the projects below to see the R40 in action.
